Professional Electric Cooker Installation by Qualified Electricians
Ideal Electricians provides professional electric cooker and oven installation services across London. Our qualified electricians install all types of electric cooking appliances safely, in full compliance with BS 7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and Part P of the Building Regulations.
Whether you are installing a new freestanding electric cooker, replacing an existing appliance, fitting a built-in oven and induction hob, or installing a large electric range cooker, our team handles the complete electrical installation including a dedicated cooker circuit where required.
All work is tested, inspected, and certified on completion. We notify Building Control on your behalf where a new circuit or significant alteration is involved, and we provide an Electrical Installation Certificate for your records.
Electric cookers and ovens require a dedicated high-current circuit, typically rated at 32A or 45A. This is significantly more power than a standard 13A socket circuit can provide. Attempting to connect a cooker to a standard socket or using an extension lead is dangerous and against UK electrical regulations.
A qualified electrician must install a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit to the cooker connection unit, using the correct cable size (typically 6mm² or 10mm²) and an appropriately rated circuit breaker. All work on circuits of this type falls under Part P of the Building Regulations and must be carried out or certified by a competent person.
Ideal Electricians is NICEIC approved, which means we are a registered competent persons scheme member. We self-certify our work with Building Control, saving you the cost and time of third-party inspection.
A dedicated cooker circuit is a separate electrical circuit running directly from your consumer unit (fuse box) to the cooker connection unit in your kitchen. It is required for all electric cookers, ovens, and induction hobs above 3kW.
The typical specification for a UK electric cooker circuit is:
If your property does not already have a dedicated cooker circuit, or if the existing circuit is undersized for your new appliance, our electricians will install a new circuit from your consumer unit. We assess the correct cable size and breaker rating based on the appliance load and cable route length.
A cooker connection unit (also called a cooker switch or cooker control unit) is a wall-mounted unit that connects your electric cooker to the dedicated circuit. It provides a local isolation point so the cooker can be safely disconnected for maintenance or in an emergency without going to the consumer unit.
Cooker connection units are available with or without a switched socket outlet. The unit must be positioned within 2 metres of the cooker and should be mounted at a height that allows easy access. Our electricians ensure the connection unit is correctly rated for the cooker load and safely wired to the dedicated circuit.
Where an existing connection unit is damaged, incorrectly rated, or poorly positioned, we replace it as part of the cooker installation service.
Ideal Electricians provides fast and reliable cooker and oven installation throughout London. We install a wide range of electric cooking appliances, including freestanding cookers, built-in ovens, electric hobs, ceramic hobs, and induction cookers.
We work with care and attention to detail, making sure every connection is safe before the appliance is used.
Freestanding electric cookers are the most common type of electric cooking appliance in UK homes. They sit between kitchen units or against a wall and connect to the dedicated cooker circuit via a connection unit.
Our electricians handle the complete installation including:
We work with all brands and models of freestanding electric cooker including Beko, Hotpoint, AEG, Rangemaster, Leisure, Smeg, and all other major manufacturers.
Built-in ovens and induction hobs are fitted directly into kitchen units, giving a sleek integrated appearance. They may each require their own dedicated connection or share a single high-rated circuit, depending on their combined load.
Induction hobs in particular draw significant current — many models require a 32A or 40A circuit. Our electricians calculate the combined demand of the oven and hob before installation to ensure the circuit is correctly sized and protected.
For new kitchen installations, we work alongside kitchen fitters to ensure wiring is in place before units are installed. For appliance replacements, we disconnect the old appliance, inspect the existing circuit, and complete the new installation safely and cleanly.
Electric and dual-fuel range cookers are larger, heavier appliances often requiring a 45A or 50A dedicated circuit to handle multiple ovens and a large electric or induction hob. Our electricians are experienced in installing all sizes of range cooker including those from Rangemaster, AGA, Falcon, Stoves, SMEG, Lacanche, and Belling.
Range cookers often require additional planning to ensure the dedicated circuit has the correct cable rating and that the consumer unit has sufficient capacity. Where a consumer unit upgrade is required, we can carry out the upgrade as part of the overall installation.
We provide a fixed-price quotation before any work begins so you know exactly what is involved and what the cost will be.
It is not recommended. Many electric cookers require a dedicated circuit and safe hard-wired connection. A qualified electrician should carry out the installation.
Most standard electric cooker installations can be completed relatively quickly, depending on the condition of the existing wiring and whether the correct circuit is already in place.
Many electric cookers require a suitable cooker control unit or isolator switch. Our electrician will check your setup before installation.
Yes. We install built-in ovens, electric hobs, ceramic hobs, induction hobs, and freestanding electric cookers.
If your wiring or circuit is not suitable, we can advise on the required upgrade and carry out the necessary electrical work safely.
The installation of a new dedicated cooker circuit is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations. This means it must be carried out or certified by a competent person registered with an approved scheme, or a Building Control notice must be submitted and a third-party inspection arranged.
As a NICEIC approved contractor, Ideal Electricians is registered as a competent person. We self-certify all notifiable electrical work directly with Building Control on your behalf at no extra cost. You receive a completion certificate confirming your installation complies with Part P, which is important for insurance purposes and when selling your property.
Simply replacing an existing cooker on an existing circuit with a like-for-like appliance is generally not notifiable, but we always advise confirming this before work begins.
All electrical work carried out by Ideal Electricians is tested and inspected on completion in accordance with BS 7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. For a new cooker circuit installation, we carry out:
On completion of testing, we issue an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) which records the details of the circuit, test results, and confirmation of compliance. This document is important for home insurance, mortgage purposes, and any future sale of your property. We retain a copy and register the work with the relevant Building Control authority.
